Make photo copies of the reality writing letters and petitions.

Give one to everyone you know and ask them to support the ELDER JUSTICE ACT by signing and mailing a reality writing letter to their Senators and Congress member. Please research the name and address of your legislators first and follow the KISS approach: Keep It Simple & Share.

Ask those who are especially energetic & outgoing to take a copy of a petition and pass it around to: Girl and Boy Scout Troops, gyms, schools, fairs, put it in their holiday cards, ask your community newspaper to print it, ask your public library, your grocer, if you can leave a stack of letters and petitions on their counter.

Get creative. Go somewhere people congregate like a health fair, book store, flea market, clubs, senior center, etc. & share.

Talk to your healthcare providers, especially, your medical doctors and ask them to support the ELDER JUSTICE ACT by making reality writing letters and petitions available at their front desk so that patients, drug reps, nurses, aides can help themselves.

Ask your physician if he/she will fax copies of those letters to every other doctor, facility, physical therapy office, etc. he or she knows and refers patients to. Please remind people that elder abuse is everyone’s business.

Having lunch or dinner out? It’s an opportunity to network and make people aware.
|
|
Ask your clergy man or woman to make supporting the ELDER JUSTICE ACT part of your religious institution’s community outreach.

Go to your local office supply story & ask the manager to support the ELDER JUSTICE ACT by making copies of the reality writing letters & petitions provided. Then pass them out & ask your friends to do the same. Networking is a great way to make new friends, too.

Contact your community newspapers. Ask them to run informational articles about elder abuse & the EJA. Tell them Paradise Costs has FREE by-lined articles offering information on elder abuse & what the RED FLAGS of abuse, neglect & exploitation are.

There are many opportunities to share awareness. Baby boomers are the most educated, enlightened and powerful generation this country has every known. We can have impact. After the EJA passes we must continue to be proactive until it’s amended properly.

The Journal of the American Medical Association in 2002 printed an article stating that awareness of elder abuse will take 30-40 years before it reaches what it currently is for child abuse. ACT NOW or your children & grandchildren will be at risk, too. |
